As time goes on, we come to realize that we need support when learning, even when we’re adults. Hopewoods offers psychoeducational assessments for young adult students in Grade 12 and 1st year college/university, as well as to adults wanting to continue their education. This assessment examines how a person thinks, learns, and applies their knowledge. It provides a deep and evidence-based insight into your learning needs and helps you get the support you need through your academic challenges.
Most high schools, colleges, and universities teach students in a very traditional, standardized way, but that’s not the best fit for everyone. A psychoeducational assessment is the first step in identifying the student’s strengths and weaknesses while developing Individual Education Plans (IEP) with schools.
When a student's learning needs aren’t supported and met, they may:
- Struggle in school
- Complain more about school
- Show a lack of confidence (at school or elsewhere)

- Have a hard time connecting with peers
- Have behavioural challenges
- Have a lack of motivation to attend classes
- Experience a sudden change in academic standing

- Receive comments from teachers about inattention, behaviour issues, lack of classroom involvement, irritation, or decreasing peer relations
- Have sudden changes in appetite, sleep patterns, or engaging in activities they used to enjoy

A psychoeducational assessment can help students and adults get valuable insight, empower them in their goals for academic success, feel more confident, and thrive throughout their life.

Hopewoods offers psychoeducational assessments to young adults from Grade 12 and beyond, as well as to adults interested in continuing their education. In contrast, at our sister agency, Sparkling Seeds, we offer psychoeducational assessments for children, youth, Grade 12 students, and 1st year college/university students.
Since every student’s learning process is different, we take a unique approach to each and every assessment.
It all begins with a conversation. We start with understanding who the student is and how their learning journey has been going. We’ll sit down for interviews, ensuring we get a comprehensive perspective to develop a personalized IEP.
When we’ve reviewed our client’s background, we will talk more about what they’ve been dealing with recently. We may discuss their challenges and symptoms they’ve been facing with their mental health, which will help bring the real issue into clear focus.
Finally, we will include a series of standardized psychometric measures, such as mental health questionnaires, that we’ll ask clients to fill out. We will compile the information to create a strength-based profile for developing an IEP.

After the clinical interview and assessment measures are finished, we will compile a report that helps identify giftedness, intellectual disabilities, or cognitive variations, guiding tailored educational strategies to maximize learning potential. Our psychologist will go over their findings and create an IEP.
