Athen believes in the common humanity that we all share. We live, we suffer, we learn, and we grow. “The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction not a destination.” As a counselor and psychotherapist, Athen looks forward to joining you on your life journey. Together, we will uncover the life processes as they unfold, transforming them into the strengths and growth that will shape your future.

Athen holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s in Psychological Medicine, with experience of practicing psychotherapy since 2015 in hospitals, out-patient clinics, and community health centers in Hong Kong and Canada. His therapeutic approach is grounded in cultural humility and absorbed wisdom from different modalities with primary orientations in cognitive-behavioral and emotion-focused therapy. He is currently expanding his expertise in family systemic therapy at the University of Guelph.

With specialized training in low-intensity cognitive-behavioral therapy, Athen is equipped to provide this therapy in a basic course consisting of 8 to 12 sessions for individuals experiencing mild to moderate depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive issues, and insomnia. He was also trained in cognitive-behavioral therapy for bipolar disorder and psychosis. In his relational work, Athen focuses on working with couple conflicts and conflicts between adolescents and their parents, as well as supporting families and caregivers of loved ones with mental health issues.
