Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Have you been living with a lot of negative thoughts on a daily basis? If you would like to better understand the why behind such thoughts and how they relate to your behaviours, Hopewoods offers cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). Since 2011, we have integrated CBT into our counselling sessions to better support diverse Canadian communities in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area.
What is
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy?
Cognitive behavioural therapy is an evidence-based therapy that is all about addressing and understanding your current mental health struggles. CBT may help you manage such struggles by learning to understand how your thoughts affect your behaviours. The ultimate goal of CBT is to help you change your behaviours by targeting negative thoughts. While mostly used for anxiety and depression, it’s helpful for all kinds of mental struggles. You will become more aware of your negative thinking, so you can respond to them more effectively.

How it Works
Cognitive behavioural therapy helps you understand the way you currently think and behave and why. Additionally, CBT helps you to identify automatic thoughts or feelings that may lead to certain behaviours. Our therapists are professionally trained to identify such difficult thought patterns and behaviours during counselling sessions.
With CBT, you can learn the skills needed in shifting maladaptive thoughts that lead to unwanted behaviours into more affirmative thoughts that lead to behaviours that are healthier for well-being and quality of life.
Cognitive behavioural therapy may be applied to your counselling sessions or complemented by another service we offer at Hopewoods, such as mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT). You are welcome to discuss further options with our staff.
